Godfrey
48” X 72”
Acrylic and Resin on Canvas
Continuation of the 'God Envy' series.
Here is 'Godfrey'.
Godfrey is one one of the protagonist’s best friends, one of two specifically, the other being Rochester. Although Godfrey plays a small role in the happenings of God Envy, he plays an instrumental role in the early and ongoing formation of the protagonist's philosophy, personality, and mind. Even through years of separation, Jonas tends to think of Godfrey, Rochester, and himself as all being component parts to a singular institution, and considers it entirely possible that they are all actually the same person living three different lives simultaneously.
Godfrey is a bard and a philosopher, and spends his time either making music, working his day job, or contemplating his studies. He is quiet and broody, historic and novel in his aesthetic approach, and he tends to shut himself away from the world in long periods during which he produces musical masterpieces.
This canvas is particularly large, and was left bare for a particularly long time. Creating something which truly speaks to the magnitude of wealth I have received through the many friendships I have in life is an insurmountable challenge, may this piece be one of many in a long line of homages to great friendships.
