Meet Dr. Praley.
The first in the God Envy series, all of which are named after the principle characters in my unpublished novel.
Praley, the character, is a doctor in an unspecified time and place in the future. He exists in a time where many miraculous scientific developments have made it possible for psychologists to interact much more directly with an individual's perspective, and in which psychologists and doctors work for an unknown regime who have interests in manually shaping the psychological profiles of ordinary citizens. Praley and his timeline are not central to the plot of my novel, but serve to guide the reader through more abstract concepts about the ways the universe/mind work, while still maintaining a compelling narrative of his own.
I was experiencing a great deal of turmoil in my life when I created this painting, and I believe the departure from my usual style into a more jarring and blocky aesthetic was a direct result of the stress that was running my mind at that time. It's fascinating how much our moods can affect our minds and our creations, how varied something produced in anger can be from something produced in joy. Needless to say the departure from my running motif was somewhat unexpected in the creation of this piece, and as such it took a good amount of time for me to see it as I do today.
